- Nassau County — administered through the Nassau County Surrogate’s Court, 262 Old Country Road, Mineola, NY 11501. Communities include Garden City, Mineola, Hempstead, Massapequa, Great Neck, and Levittown.
- Suffolk County — administered through the Suffolk County Surrogate’s Court, 320 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY 11901. Communities include Huntington, Smithtown, Patchogue, Babylon, Riverhead, and the East End (Southampton, East Hampton, Montauk).
Your estate is administered in the court for the county where you are domiciled (SCPA 205–206), regardless of where individual properties sit.
What to expect — and what to bring
A first consultation is a conversation about your situation and options. To make it productive, it helps to have:
- A rough list of assets — home(s), accounts, retirement plans, life insurance, vehicles, boats, business interests.
- How each asset is titled (sole, joint, or with a named beneficiary).
- Any existing documents — current will, trust, power of attorney, or health care proxy.
- Your goals — avoiding probate, planning for Medicaid, minimizing estate tax, or settling a loved one’s estate.
For probate matters, the death certificate and the original will are central documents.
